Negombo Beach is Sri Lanka's most convenient beach destination — just 10km from the international airport. The Lewis Place beach strip hosts hotels and guesthouses that serve as first/last night accommodation for travellers. The Dutch Canal and fishing harbour add character. Negombo's fishing industry means some of Sri Lanka's freshest seafood. The large Catholic community gives it a distinct character — church festivals and Christmas celebrations are highlights.
