Queenstown CBD / Town Centre

Queenstown's town centre is built on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, one of the most dramatic settings of any town in the world. The Remarkables mountain range fills the southern horizon, the Skyline Gondola rises to Bob's Peak above, and the historic TSS Earnslaw steamship cruises the lake below. The Mall — a pedestrianised shopping street — connects to Rees Street's fine dining and Searle Lane's bar scene. Fergburger is Queenstown's most famous institution — a gourmet burger shop that draws queues day and night. Steamer Wharf provides premium lakeside dining, while The Cow has been serving pizza in a stone building for over 40 years. In winter, the apres-ski scene spills from Coronet Peak and The Remarkables into town; in summer, jet boating on the Shotover River and bungee jumping from the Kawarau Bridge take over. Property in the CBD is scarce and expensive — the town is physically constrained by lake and mountains. Apartments and townhouses dominate, with strong Airbnb and short-term rental returns. The proposed Whoosh gondola transit system connecting the CBD to Frankton and the airport (targeted late 2028) could transform access and property values.
