It is simultaneously a traditional Maldivian island with a mosque at its center and a full-blown tourism economy. For investors, Maafushi offers the highest rental yields in the Maldives. The guesthouse model delivers occupancy rates of 70-85% through direct bookings and online travel agencies. The capital requirement is a fraction of resort development, and the operational model is proven. The catch: Maldivian law requires local ownership structures, so foreign investors typically operate through partnerships or financing arrangements. Despite this, the returns have attracted significant international interest and the model is now being replicated across dozens of other local islands.
