Herceg Novi Old Town

Herceg Novi's Old Town cascades down a hillside at the western entrance to the Bay of Kotor. Founded in 1382, the town features Ottoman, Venetian, and Austro-Hungarian architecture layered over centuries. The Forte Mare and Kanli Kula fortress frame the harbour, while narrow staircase streets (there are more steps than flat streets) wind between stone buildings draped in bougainvillea. The town hosts a vibrant cultural calendar including the Mimosa Festival and film festivals. Its position near the Croatian border makes it a gateway between the two countries.
