About Takapuna

Takapuna is where Auckland's North Shore truly shines — a white-sand beach facing Rangitoto Island, a 6.5km lakeside walking circuit around volcanic Lake Pupuke, and a town centre packed with over 100 places to eat and drink. The beach was voted Auckland's favourite, with a large accessible playground, grass reserves, and changing facilities making it ideal for families. Hurstmere Road is the main retail strip, leading to the Melbourne-inspired Eat Street laneways at Fortieth and Hurstmore — a quirky precinct of courtyards, murals, and diverse menus. Shore City Shopping Centre provides covered mall shopping, while the famous Takapuna Sunday Market fills the car park with specialty foods, produce, and artisan goods every weekend. The breathtaking Takapuna-to-Milford coastal walk winds north over rocks and along beaches for 45 minutes each way, with Rangitoto Island dominating the view. Property ranges from beachfront apartments to family homes backing onto Lake Pupuke, with median values around NZD 1.6 million. The area is intensifying with new apartment developments in the town centre.
