About Parnell / Newmarket

Parnell is a ten-minute walk from Auckland's CBD yet feels like a world apart — a leafy heritage village of Victorian buildings, art galleries, and flower-filled gardens. Parnell Road winds past boutique shops while Tala serves contemporary Samoan cuisine from a hidden laneway. The Auckland War Memorial Museum sits within the 75-hectare Auckland Domain, and just below, the Parnell Rose Gardens bloom spectacularly from November to March with harbour panoramas. Newmarket to the south is Auckland's retail powerhouse — Westfield houses 200+ stores, while Broadway delivers vegan ice cream to ramen. Property values are among Auckland's highest at around NZD 2.5 million median for character homes, though Newmarket apartments offer accessible entry points. Newmarket dipped 9-10% in 2025 but the CRL Karanga-a-Hape station opening nearby should support recovery.
