About Barfoot & Thompson

New Zealand's largest privately owned real estate company, run by the original Barfoot and Thompson families since 1923.

Auckland · Northland · Bay of Plenty · Waikato

Over 100 years of family ownership

Barfoot & Thompson began in 1923, when Val Barfoot bought a small Newmarket land agency and called it V. Barfoot Land Agent. Maurice Thompson joined the Barfoot brothers in 1934, and in 1940 the business became Barfoot & Thompson as it is known today. The current Directors, Peter Thompson and Stephen Barfoot, are grandsons of the original owners.

Today we are New Zealand's largest privately owned real estate company, with more than 80 branches throughout Auckland, Northland, the Bay of Plenty and the Waikato, and over 1,800 residential, lifestyle, rural and commercial salespeople. Our non-franchised structure means any of our agents can buy or sell for you.

Alongside residential sales we run full-service Property Management, Commercial and Body Corporate divisions, with over 22,000 residential rental properties under management and a large national and international partner network.
