About Barfoot & Thompson · Since 1923
Family-owned for over 100 years
Barfoot & Thompson began in 1923 as V. Barfoot, Land Agent, a small agency in Newmarket. Maurice Thompson joined the Barfoot brothers in 1934, and more than 100 years on the company is still run by the original Barfoot and Thompson families.
Today it is New Zealand's largest privately owned real estate company, with more than 80 branches throughout Auckland, Northland, the Bay of Plenty and the Waikato, over 1,800 salespeople and more than 22,000 residential rental properties under management.
Why Barfoot & Thompson
Auckland's market leader.
At the 2025–2026 International Property Awards, Barfoot & Thompson became the first agency in the world to win three global titles in one year. It has won REINZ Agency of the Year (All Disciplines), Large, consistently since the award began in 2012.

People
We may deal in property, but our business is about people: the people who work for us, our customers and our communities.
Family
Family shapes who we are and what we do. Whether people are buying, selling or renting, it is all about family in the end.
Community
It is important to make the place we live a better place to live. We support everything from sports to arts to cultural events across Auckland and Northland.
Diversity
Our customers are diverse and so are we. Our people speak over 50 different languages, just like our customers.
